Dan Cnossen is a retired Navy SEAL and Paralympic biathlete and cross-country skier. He was born on February 22, 1980 in Topeka, Kansas. Cnossen served as a Navy SEAL for 10 years, completing seven deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
In 2009, Cnossen was severely injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving in Afghanistan, resulting in the amputation of both his legs above the knee. After his injury, Cnossen turned to sports as a form of rehabilitation and began training in cross-country skiing and biathlon.
Cnossen made his Paralympic debut at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, where he won a silver medal in the men's 15km cross-country skiing event. He went on to represent the United States at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, where he won six medals, including his first Paralympic gold in the men's 7.5km biathlon event.
Cnossen is known for his determination, resilience, and commitment to excellence both in his military service and athletic pursuits. He continues to inspire others with his story of overcoming adversity and achieving success in the face of challenges.
